This specimen was lot 33610 in Heritage sale 3038 (Dallas, January 2015), where it sold for $1,762.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "William IV Guilder 1836 MS65 NGC. A scarce one year type in all grades, truly rare in this state of preservation. Light silvery toning with exquisite Prooflike characteristics." British Guiana, on the north coast of South America, was normally sent regular British coins (such as this groat) for circulation but in 1836, a series of one eighth, one quarter, one half and one guilder coins were minted and issued. The experiment was not repeated.
Recorded mintage: 57,000 plus a few proofs.
