Breslau 1686 ducat Fr-523
This specimen was lot 2454 in Sincona Auction 101 (Zürich, October 2025), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Breslau, Bistum, Franz Ludwig von Pfalz-Neuburg, 1683-1732. Dukat 1686, Neisse. Sehr selten. Vorzüglich. (Germany, bishopric of Breslau, Francis Louis of Palatinate-Neuburg, 1683-1732, ducat of 1686, Neisse mint. Very rare, Extremely Fine.)"
Many dates exist (1686-88, 1691-93, 1696, 1700-02, 1707, 1711, 1715, 1720, 1723, 1726-27, 1730-32) of this type but all are rare. The Bishopric of Breslau was an ecclesiastical state in Silesia and usually ruled by a Hapsburg client from 1526 until its conquest by Frederick the Great in 1741. Breslau issued a long series of ducats and multiple ducats, all rare. Breslau also struck coins for the emperor; we don't know if the same facility was used or if the emperor had his own plant. These are generally listed under Silesia.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3.46 g.
