Bremen and Verden 1697-LM 1/24 thaler
This specimen was lot 11094 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Copenhagen, June 2026), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. Bremen & Verden. 1/24 Taler, 1697-LM. Bremen & Verden Mint. Karl XI. NGC Fine Details--Bent. From the L.E. Bruun Collection. Ex: Countship of Brahesminde Collection (Private Sale - 1922). Ex: August Christian Mohr Collection (Copenhagen - 1847) Lot #4618." The duchy of Bremen and Verden is the name given to the archbishopric of Bremen after it was secularized by the terms of the Treaty of Westphalia and handed over to the king of Sweden. The Swedish ruled the province until 1719, when it was sold to Hannover. The Hanseatic city of Bremen was not part of the deal. This obscure type was struck 1696 and 1697.
