Bremen 1781-OHK 1/2 groten
This specimen was lot 3859 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €460 (about US$602 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BREMEN, STADT. 1/2 Groten 1781. Feine Patina, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Germany, city of Bremen, half groten of 1781. Fine patina, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
This denomination was struck in numerous types (KM 100.1, 100.2, 208, 209, 210, 211, 216, 217) throughout the eighteenth century. Some are noted in copper, others in silver, but this one in low grade billon is typical. One thaler = 72 groten. The second specimen was lot 1510 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €2,200 (about US$3,115 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"DEUTSCHE MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN · BREMEN, STADT Goldabschlag von den Stempeln des halben Groten 1781. GOLD. RR Feine Goldpatina, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Germany, city of Bremen, gold strike using half groten dies. Very rare, fine gold patina, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
Recorded mintage: 288,000.
Specification: 0.73 g, 0.166 fine silver, the first specimen 0.67 g; the second specimen gold, 1,14 g.
