Brazil 1965 20 cruzeiros rev DSLR.jpg

In 1942, during the presidency of Getulio Vargas, the réis was dropped as a unit of currency after 400 years and the cruzeiro adopted. To mark the occasion, all new coins were released. This denomination was struck 1965 only. Later twenty cruzeiros, such as KM 583 of 1972, were the product of a subsequent currency reform. The cruzeiro itself survived only until 1967, the victim of uncontrolled inflation. This one year type is worthless in all grades. Brazil endured currency reforms in 1942, 1967, 1986, 1989, 1990, 1993 and 1994. Wikipedia comments, "Combined with all previous currency changes in the country's history, this reform [of 1994] made the new real equal to 2.75 × 1018 (2.75 quintillion) of Brazil's original réis."
