Shown is a 500 réis of the United States of Brazil, of a type struck 1913 only. It was accompanied by similar 1000 réis and 2000 réis. Subsequent types of this denomination were aluminum-bronze. The denomination was abolished in 1942 with the reform of the coinage in that year.
