Shown is a 2000 réis of the United States of Brazil, of a type struck 1913 only. It superseded the type of 1912-13, which had a slightly different reverse. This type is the last Brazilian silver coin than was reasonably close to a peso in size. The head of Liberty on this coin was reused on the subsequent type, struck 1924-34 which was base silver and only 7.9 grams. The denomination was abolished in 1942 with the reform of the coinage in that year.
Recorded mintage: unknown but common.
Specification: 20 g, 0.900 fine silver, .578 troy oz ASW.
