The first specimen was lot 70391 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRAZIL. 2000 Reis, 1907. Rio de Janeiro Mint. PCGS MS-65+ Gold Shield. Another top pop in the PCGS population report, this glistening Gem offers incredible eye appeal through its cartwheel brilliance and vibrant toning. Assuredly, a specimen that will generated spirited participation and enthusiasm." Shown is a 2000 réis of the United States of Brazil, of a type struck 1906-12. The head of Liberty on this coin also appeared on silver 500 and 1000 réis of the same period. The denomination was abolished in 1942 with the reform of the coinage in that year.
