Sincona sale 18, lot 1143

This specimen was lot 1143 in Sincona sale 18 (Zürich, May 2014), where it sold for CHF 800 (about US$1,054 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"20000 Reis 1858. Rio Fast vorzüglich-vorzüglich. (Brazil, 20,000 réis of 1858, extremely fine.)"

This type, struck 1853-67 and 1889, is the most common gold coin of the Empire.

Recorded mintage: 32,000.
