Sincona sale 18, lot 1143

This specimen was lot 1143 in Sincona sale 18 (Zürich, May 2014), where it sold for CHF 800 (about US$1,054 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"20000 Reis 1858. Rio Fast vorzüglich-vorzüglich. (Brazil, 20,000 réis of 1858, extremely fine.)"

This type, struck 1853-67 and 1889, is the most common gold coin of the Empire.

Recorded mintage: 32,000.

Specification: 17.93 g, 0.917 fine gold, .528 troy oz AGW, this specimen 17.91 g.
