Sincona sale 11, lot 608

This specimen was lot 608 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it sold for 680 CHF (about US$842 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"BRASILIEN Pedro II. 1831-1889. 20000 Reis 1857, Rio. Im Avers Kratzer. Fast vorzüglich. (Brazil, Peter II, 1831-89, Twenty thousand réis of 1857, Rio mint. Obverse rim bumps, choice extremely fine.)"

This type, struck 1853-89, is the most common gold coin of the Empire. An 1857/6 overdate is recorded for the year.
