This specimen was lot 26164 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $305.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Pedro II 1200 Reis 1847, VF/XF, minimally toned, once cleaned around the date with numerous planchet striations on the reverse (as made), the final year of the type." This type was struck in small numbers 1834-48 in Rio de Janeiro, with 1834, 1835 and 1837 being the reasonably available dates. The series came accompanied by 100 réis, 200 réis, 800 réis and 400 réis in silver.
Recorded mintage: 10,000 (highest mintage date).
Specification: 26.89 g, 0.917 fine silver, .792 troy oz ASW.
