This specimen was lot 13071 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $12,925. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRAZIL. 1,200 Reis, 1839. NGC VF-30. The Rarest Reform Coinage Crown of Brazil. EXTREMELY RARE. Mintage of only 186 pieces. A classic rarity, estimated that only 8 to 10 pieces exist today." This silver 1200 réis was minted 1834-47 in Rio de Janeiro. The series came accompanied by 100 réis, 200 réis, 400 réis and 800 réis in silver. The 1200 réis had the same specification as the old 960 réis last minted in 1833.
