This specimen was lot 23300 in Heritage sale 3012 (Boston, August 2010), where it sold for $11,500. The catalog description[1] noted, "João VI Prince Regent gold 6400 Reis 1817R, lightly toned AU, an attractive and fully original example of this very rare date." The type was struck 1805-17 with the portrait of João as Prince Regent (he later became king João VI).

Recorded mintage: 32,000.

Specification: 14.34 g, 0.917 fine gold, .423 troy oz AGW.
