This specimen was lot 2125 in Goldberg sale 34 (Beverly Hills, February 2006), where it sold for $1,050. The catalog description[1] noted, "Brazil. 2000 Reis, 1715. João V. Crowned arms and value. Reverse: Cross of Jerusalem. PCGS graded AU-50." This type was struck between 1714 and 1725 in Bahia as part of the "moeda provincial" series. While the 4000 réis is relatively available, its fractions (2000 réis and 1000 réis) are much scarcer. When specimens appear, they usually bring multiples of the catalog value.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 5.37 g, 0.917 fine gold, .158 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: KM 105, Friedberg 31.
