Brandenburg 1683-LCS ducat Fr-2230
This specimen was lot 1026 in Sincona Auction 100 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 15,000 CHF (about US$22,608 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Brandenburg-Preussen, Markgrafschaft, 1417 Kurfürstentum, 1701 Königreich. Friedrich Wilhelm, 1640-1688. Dukat 1683, Berlin. FRID:WILH:D·G M BR·SR·I·EL· Geharnischtes Brustbild nach rechts mit umgelegtem Mantel und Feldbinde, darunter die Signatur ·LC·S· (Lorenz Christoph Schneider, Münzmeister in Berlin 1682-1701). Rv. DEO - DVCE·1683· Dreimaster auf See, oben links Winde aus Wolken. Sehr selten. Fast vorzüglich. Feine Goldtönung. Leicht gewellt. (Germany, electorate of Brandenburg, Frederick William, 1640-88, ducat of 1683, Berlin mint. Very rare, About Extremely Fine, Nice gold toning, Slightly wavy flan.)"
This type is listed for 1682-86 but is rare like most gold issues of Brandenburg. Other ducats for 1683 include KM 471 and KM 492.
