Kunker sale 293, lot 238

This specimen was lot 238 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €500 (about US$674 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG IN FRANKEN. Christian, 1603-1655. 1/4 Reichstaler 1655, Nürnberg, auf seinen Tod am 30. Mai. Slg. Wilm. 564; Slg. Grüber (Auktion Künker 267) 3620 (dieses Exemplar). R Feine Tönung, winz. Justierspuren, vorzüglich. Exemplar der Slg. Roland Grüber, Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 267, Osnabrück 2015, Nr. 3620. (margraviate of Brandenburg, Christian, 1603-55, quarter thaler of 1655, Nuremburg mint, on his death on May 30. Scarce, fine toning, minor adjustment marks, extremely fine.)"

This type obtains a large sum for an insignificant minor from an insignificant state. A groschen and a gulden were also issued on this occasion.
