Brandenburg-Ansbach 1696-PHM PG thaler Dav-6257
This specimen was lot 1038 in Sincona sale 50 (Zürich, October 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"Brandenburg-Ansbach, Markgrafschaft. Georg Friedrich, der Jüngere, 1692-1703. Taler 1696, Schwabach. Münzmeister Paul Grill. Stempelschneider P. H. Müller. Geharnischtes und drapiertes Brustbild mit grosser Allongeperücke nach rechts. Rv. Fünffach behelmtes von zwei behelmten Wilden Männern gehaltenes vielfeldiges Wappen. Slg. Wilm. -. Sehr selten. Sehr schön. Exemplar der Slg. Grüber, Auktion Künker 267, Osnabrück 29.9.2015, Nr. 4330. (Germany, margraviate of Brandenburg-Ansbach, George Frederick the Younger, 1692-1703, thaler of 1696, Schwabach mint. Obverse: draped and armored bust in full wig to right; reverse: two crowned lions support five helmeted quartered arms. Very rare, Very fine.)"
This rare issue was accompanied by an even rarer double thaler (KM-128/Dav-6254). Brandenburg-Ansbach is in central Germany just north of Bavaria.
