This specimen was lot 4794 in Goldberg sale 69 (Los Angeles, May, 2012), where it sold for $833.75. The catalog description [2] noted, "German States - Brandenburg-Franconia. Taler, 1544. Georg of Ansbach & Albrecht The Younger of Bayreuth, 1527-1543-1545. Facing busts with date above. Reverse: Floriated cross with four arms in angles. Toned. NGC graded AU-55." The Margravate of Brandenburg-Ansbach was ruled by the senior branch of the Hohenzollerns until the time of Napoleon, who confiscated it and awarded it to Bavaria. This type is listed for 1538-45. It is actually a joint coinage of Brandenburg-Ansbach and -Bayreuth.
