Brabant in 1559, from Shepherd's atlas

This specimen was lot 1589 in Jean Elsen sale 145 (Brussels, September 2020), where it sold for €650 (about US$926 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRABANT, Duché, Charles II (1665-1700), AR demi-patagon, 1677, Anvers. D/ Croix de Bourgogne sous une couronne, portant le bijou de la Toison d'or. R/ Ecu couronné, entouré du collier de la Toison d'or. Rare. Très Beau. (duchy of Brabant, Charles II, 1665-1700, half patagon of 1677, Antwerp mint. Obverse: crowned Burgundian cross with jewel of the Golden Fleece dividing the date; reverse: crowned arms, Order of the Golden Fleece around. Rare, Very Fine.)"

This rather scarce type was struck 1672-73, 1677.
