Brabant 1604(h) 2 albertins d'or Fr-86
This specimen was lot 75417 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $1,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPANISH NETHERLANDS. Brabant. 2 Albertin, 1604. Antwerp Mint. Albert & Isabella. NGC MS-61. This supremely attractive and nicely struck for the type example is complimented with a rich golden luster an overall bright complexion. RARELY encountered in this grade, this charmer is surpassed by only one example on the NGC registry, and as such is a certainty to receive a premium bid." This type was struck 1600-11 as part of a short lived monetary reform. The albertin d'or was two-thirds of a ducat. The double albertin d'or is shown here. It was replaced after 1612 by the souverain d'or. Albert and Isabella were regents for Philip III in the Netherlands.
