Jean Elsen sale 159, lot 771

This specimen was lot 771 in Jean Elsen sale 159 (Brussels, June 2024), where it sold for €750 (about US$963 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRABANT, Duché, Albert et Isabelle (1598-1621), AR florin d'argent, 1602, Anvers. D/ B. affrontés des archiducs. R/ Ecu couronné, entouré du collier de la Toison d'or. Rare. Flan large. presque Très Beau. (duchy of Brabant, Albert and Isabella, 1598-1621, silver florin of 1602, Antwerp mint. Obverse: facing busts of the archdukes; reverse: crowned arms, order chain around. Rare, large planchet, about very fine.)"

This type was struck 1600-02 at Antwerp (shown here), Brussels and Maastricht. It was part of the coinage reform of Albert and Isabella which attempted to revive the devastated Spanish Netherlands.
