This specimen was lot 783 in Jean Elsen sale 164 (Brussels, March 2026), where it sold for €80 (about US$111 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRABANT, Duché, Charles Quint (1506-1555), billon quart de gros, s.d. (1507-1520), Anvers. D/ Écu couronné d'Autriche-Bourgogne. R/ Croix cantonnée de deux lis et deux couronnes, un lion un coeur. Rare. Patine foncée. Très Beau. (duchy of Brabant, Charles V, 1506-55, undated billon quarter groat, Antwerp mint, circa 1507-20. Obverse: crowned arms of Austria-Burgundy; reverse: cross cantonned with two lilies and two crowns, a lion at the center. Rare, nice patina, Very Fine.)"

This type was struck at Antwerp (shown here) and Maastricht (star in the center of the reverse) in the early part of Charles' reign, when he was merely duke of Burgundy. He obtained the throne of Spain in 1516 and was crowned Holy Roman Emperor in 1520.

Recorded mintage: 1,542,617 plus 240,602 from Maastricht.

Specification: 0.77 g, 0.146 fine silver, 17 mm diameter, this specimen 0,70 g.
