Bolivia 1979 4000 pesos bolivianos
This specimen was lot 1681 in Goldberg sale 112 (Los Angeles, September 2019), where it sold for $810. The catalog description[1] noted, "Bolivia. 4000 Pesos, 1979. International Year of the Child. Child playing flute. Choice Brilliant Proof." This NCLT, accompanied by a silver 200 pesos (KM 198), is seldom seen. It was part of a short-lived currency reform. In 1965 the boliviano, which had not been struck since 1951, was dropped in favor of the peso boliviano, which lasted until 1979. In 1987 the boliviano was resumed, with 1 boliviano = 1,000,000 pesos bolivianos. Much of South America went through the same hyperinflationary stress as Bolivia, exacerbated by incompetent military rule.
