This type was struck 1965 and 1970. Despite the modest mintage, the catalog value is very low. It was part of a short-lived currency reform. In 1965 the boliviano, which had not been struck since 1951, was dropped in favor of the peso boliviano, which lasted until 1979. In 1987 the boliviano was resumed, with 1 boliviano = 1,000,000 pesos boliviano. Much of South America went through the same hyperinflationary stress as Bolivia, exacerbated by incompetent military rule.
Recorded mintage: 100,000.
Specification: 1.7 g, copper plated steel, 22 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM 187.
