The first specimen was lot 71132 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2020), where it sold for $432. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA. Boliviano, 1865-PTS FP. Potosi Mint. NGC MS-63+. Exceptional quality for the type, this choice example presents a great deal of shimmering luster along with a hint of champagne toning. Just one has been graded finer in the NGC census." The second specimen was lot 71174 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[2] noted, "BOLIVIA. Boliviano, 1865-PTS FP. Potosi Mint. PCGS MS-63. This nice Mint State example displays rich details and almost no instances of actual handling." This type was struck in large quantities 1864-68 after Bolivia converted to decimal coinage in 1864. The boliviano was adopted as the successor to the old eight soles and struck in various forms 1864-93. The series contains many rare dates and varieties but this one is common altho the 1866-FE is rare. The silver boliviano effectively ended in 1875; later dates (1877, 1879, 1884, 1887, 1893) exist but they are very rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-152.1.
