Bolivia 1834-PTS LM 8 scudos
This specimen was lot 20179 in Stack's Bowers ANA Auction (Denver, CO, August 2017), where it sold for $2,350. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA. 8 Scudos, 1834-LM. PCGS AU-58 Secure Holder. Minimal wear and trivial marks on par for the grade. Well struck, lustrous and very attractive. From the Blue Moon Collection." While silver coins from Bolivia exist in vast quantities, gold from Bolivia is scarce. For the colonial period, Colombia may be regarded as the most prolific issuer, followed by Mexico, followed by Peru. Bolivia, Chile and Guatemala are minor sources. This type was minted 1831-40 and is scarce, especially in nice condition. Assayers JL, JM, LM are known for 1834.
