Sincona sale 34, lot 4115

This specimen was lot 4115 in Sincona sale 34 (Zürich, October 2016), where it sold for 2,400 CHF (about US$2,849 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA. Rudolf II. 1576-1612 Taler 1582. Budweis Münzmeister Christoph Schönfeld. Sehr selten. Gutes sehr schön. Schöne Kabinettpatina. (Holy Roman Empire, Rudolf II, 1576-1612, thaler of 1582, Budweis mint, mintmaster Christoph Schönfeld. Very rare, Good very fine, nice cabinet toning.)"

Budweis, a rather obscure mint in Moravia, produced this type 1579-1603. Undated specimens exist.
