Steve Album sale 54, lot 3418

This specimen was lot 3418 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $30. The catalog description[1] noted, "BHUTAN: Jigme Dorji, 1926-1952, AE pice, ND (1954), struck at the Calcutta Mint, a superb lustrous example! PCGS graded MS65 RD." This type, equal to 1/64 rupee, was struck at Calcutta in 1951 and 1954. Neither issue was dated but can distinguished by the details of the fish's eye and the top of the conch. Jigme Wangchuck died in 1952 but his portrait appeared on coinage long after his death.

Recorded mintage: 1,260,000.

Specification: 2.9 g, bronze, 21.28 mm diameter, plain edge.
