Steve Album sale 54, lot 2249

This specimen was lot 2249 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "BHARATPUR: AR rupee, Mahe Indrapur, year 4, in the name of Alamgir II, two banker's marks on edge, XF-AU, ex David Fore Collection, ex Stephen Album Price List #296." Bharatpur was formed by several local Hindu chiefs in the mid 1700's and conceded British paramountcy in 1805. The rajah sided with the British during the Indian Mutiny of 1857 and received enhanced recognition. The state joined India in 1947 and is now part of Rajasthan. This rupee was struck AH 1169-1176 altho this example doesn't seem to have an AH date.
