Beromunster (1720) 1/2 thaler KM-7
This specimen was lot 75710 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $780. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND. Beromunster. 1/2 Taler, ND (1720). NGC MS-62. Struck to commemorate the 1000th anniversary of the founding of the abbey. St. Michael slaying dragon with lightning. A highly lustrous and somewhat prooflike specimen with reflective fields, frosty motifs, and a rich array of cobalt and magenta gray iridescence on both sides. P[er]fect for an experienced Swiss collector's cabinet." Numerous varieties (KM 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 16, 17) exist of this issue, which was accompanied by a quarter thaler and a michaelgulden.
