Sincona sale 43, lot 4220

This specimen was lot 4220 in Sincona sale 43 (Zürich, October 2017), where it sold for 550 CHF (about US$656 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Bern, Stadt und Kanton, 1 Franken 1811. Dreiblättriger Laubrand. Vorder- zur Rückseite gegenständig. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. FDC. Prachtexemplar. NGC MS66. (city and canton of Bern, one frank of 1811. Trefoil leaf edge, Cabinet piece. Brilliant uncirculated, Most attractive piece.)"

This type was struck 1811 only and is scarce in this condition. Four franken made a thaler. The last Bernese coin is a rappen dated 1836. The confederation of 1848 ended cantonal issues.
