Bern 1714 1/2 ducat Fr-173
The first specimen was lot 5053 in Sincona sale 80 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 2,600 CHF (about US$3,116 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND | Bern | Stadt und Kanton, Halbdukat 1714, Bern. Rare. Extremely fine." The second specimen was lot 6066 in Sincona sale 81 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 800 CHF (about US$959 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted, "SWITZERLAND | Bern | Stadt und Kanton, Halbdukat 1714, Bern. Rare. Very fine-extremely fine. Slightly wavy flan." The SCWC notes five different half ducats for the period 1714-19, some of them almost affordable but this one is rare.
