Stack's Bowers November 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72435

This specimen was lot 72435 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[1] noted, "BERMUDA. Gold 250 Dollars Piefort, 1981. Llantrisant Mint. Elizabeth II. NGC PROOF-67 Ultra Cameo. Commemorating the Royal Wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana. A RARE and enticing offering that presents a majestic cameo nature." If the mintage of 690 reported by the auctioneers is correct, then the piefort is almost as common as the regular issue.

Recorded mintage: 217 plus 790 proofs plus 690 pieforts.

Specification: 15.97 g, 0.917 fine gold, 28.4 mm diameter; piefort is 31.95 g.
