This specimen was lot 71497 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2020), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Berg. Taler, 1804-PR. Dusseldorf Mint. Maximillian IV Joseph. NGC AU-58. A boldly struck Taler with abundant bright luster in the fields and a bare hint of light gray toning." The Duchy of Berg was part of the Palatinate, given to the king of Bavaria 1799-1806 and annexed outright to France in 1808. After Waterloo, the province fell to Prussia. This type was struck by Maximilian 1802-05 and was accompanied by a half thaler, 3 stuber and half stuber.

Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.
