This specimen was lot 2253 in Goldberg sale 109 (Los Angeles, January 2019), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "Belize. 100 Dollars, 1976. Ancient Mayan Symbols. NGC graded MS-67." Belize was formerly known as British Honduras. Great Britain expressed willingness to grant independence prior to 1981 but the English-speaking locals were nervous about occasional threats from Guatemala to invade and annex the territory.
Recorded mintage: 216 + 11,000 proofs.
Specification: 6.21 g, 0.500 fine gold, 0.100 ounce AGW.
