Belize was formerly known as British Honduras. Great Britain expressed willingness to grant independence prior to 1981 but the English-speaking locals were nervous about occasional threats from Guatemala to invade and annex the territory. This specimen is one of a type struck for Belize only in 1974.
Recorded mintage: 225,000 plus 21,000 proofs plus 31,000 struck in silver.
