Belgium 1999 5000 francs
This specimen was lot 1078 in Jean Elsen sale 132 (Brussels, March 2017), where it sold for €600 (about US$760 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BELGIQUE, Royaume, Albert II (1993-2013), AV 5000 francs, 1999. Albert et Isabelle. Tranche cannelée. Rare Ecrin et certificat. Flan poli. (kingdom of Belgium, Albert II (1993-2013), gold five thousand francs of 1999, on Albert and Isabelle. Reeded edge, rare, proof.)"
This NCLT commemorating the city of Brussels' year as the European Culture Capital comes with reeded and plain edges. It was accompanied by a silver 500 francs (KM 212). The issue's career as a (theoretically) circulating coin was brief as euros were already being minted at Brussels.
