Belgium 1910 franc
This specimen was lot 41 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $193.60. The catalog description[1] noted, "BELGIUM, Kingdom. Albert I. 1909-1934. AR Franc. Bruxelles (Brussels) mint. Dated 1910. French legend. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 66. Moderately toned with slight blue and violet iridescence. Some spotting. First year of issue." This coin, one of a type struck 1910-14 and 1917-18 during the reign of Albert I of Belgium (1909-34), was struck with Walloons (dialect of French) and Flemish (dialect of Dutch) legends. The French legend type is shown here; it is somewhat scarce. Belgium was thoroughly devastated during World War One and its silver coinage was terminated.
Recorded mintage: 2,190,000 plus 2,750,000 with Dutch legends.
