Sincona sale 33, lot 2642

This specimen was lot 2642 in Sincona sale 33 (Zürich, October 2016), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"Béarn, Herrschaft, Antoine de Bourbon et Jeanne d'Albret, 1555-1562 Teston 1565. Prägung während der Witwenschaft von Jeanne dAlbret. Äusserst selten. Vorzüglich-gutes vorzüglich. Schrötlingsfehler am Rand. (Lordship of Béarn, Anthony of Bourbon and Joan of Albret, 1555-62, teston of 1565, struck under the regency of Joan of Albret. Extremely rare, Extremely fine-good extremely fine, Planchet fault at the edge.)"

Jeanne d'Albret was the mother of the future Henry IV of France. In the sixteenth century, Béarn was still autonomous and struck its own coinage.
