Stack's Bowers 2015 NYINC sale, lot 3623

This specimen was lot 3623 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $317.25. The catalog description^[1] noted, "GERMANY. Bavaria. Taler, 1837. NGC MS-63. Light toning. A lustrous example with sharp details. From the Rockaway Collection." The 1830's saw a gush of commemoratives--seven in 1835 alone--in Bavaria on significant and insignificant topics. This type was issued 1830-37 and was called a kronenthaler; the subsequent type (KM 852) was reduced to 18.52 grams.
