Sincona sale 1, lot 1718

This specimen was lot 1718 in SINCONA sale 1 (Zürich, June 2011), where it sold for 4600 CHF (about US$6,404 including buyer's fee). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Basel, Stadt Halber Guldentaler 1566. Stadtwappen in Vierpass. Rv. Nimbierter Doppeladler mit Wertzahl auf der Brust. Sehr selten. Überdurchschnittliche Erhaltung. Gutes sehr schön. (Switzerland, city of Basel, half guldenthaler of 1566; obverse: city arms in quadrilobe; reverse: nimbate double headed eagle with denomination on breast. Very rare, above average condition, good very fine.)"

This thirty kreuzer was struck 1566, 1571-76, 1581 and 1584.
