Basel (1750) goldgulden Fr-29
This specimen was lot 5056 in Sincona Auction 102 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 1,000 CHF (about US$1,507 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Basel, Stadt und Kanton, Goldgulden o. J. (um 1750), Basel. Wappen in Kreiseinfassung. Fast vorzüglich. Kleiner Schrötlingsfehler. (Switzerland, canton of Basel, undated goldgulden, circa 1750, Basel mint, arms in cartouche. About Extremely Fine, Minor flan flaw.)"
The gold coinage of Basel, never common, became even more sporadic in the eighteenth century. The flaws mentioned in the auction description are die breaks, not planchet flaws.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.25 g, 0.917 fine gold, this specimen 3.09 g.
