Bardi 1622-NG ducatone Dav-3847
This specimen was lot 697 in Nomisma Aste Auction 5 (Verona, Italy, November 2023), where it did not sell. The lot description noted,
"BARDI Federico Landi (1590-1630) Ducatone 1622 - L. Bellesia, Le monete di Federico Landi, RRR Questo splendido ducatone può presentare al D/ le iniziali dell'incisore I OZ, come nel presente esemplare, oppure G O. Lo stile e le iniziali dovrebbero attribuire a questo stesso incisore coeve produzioni di Mantova e Guastalla. Sicuramente da segnalare l'ottima qualità di questo esemplare che lo identifica come uno dei migliori noti, di gran lunga superiore comunque ai quattro esemplari illustrati da Bellesia. Di questi quattro, ben tre sono in collezioni pubbliche. (principality of Bardi, Frederick Landi, 1590-1630, ducatone of 1622. This splendid ducaton shows the engraver's initials I OZ on the obverse, as in the present example, or G O. The style and initials matches contemporary issues in Mantua and Guastalla to this same engraver. Certainly worth noting is the excellent quality of this example which identifies it as one of the best known, far superior to the four examples illustrated by Bellesia. Of these four, three are in public collections.)"
This is the only crown from this locale in Parma. The Landi family ruled the town from 1257 until they sold out to the duke of Parma in 1682. Today, Bardi has 2,355 inhabitants.
