Bangladesh was formerly the eastern part of Pakistan, a geographically divided country that was carved out of India after independence from the British in 1947. Bangladesh was able to secede from Pakistan in 1971 with Indian assistance, arguing that eastern Pakistanis did not enjoy the political influence experienced by their compatriots in the west. The coin shown is a ten poisha, F.A.O. issue, of a date only recently added to the SCWC.

Recorded mintage: 57,152,000.

Specification: 1.39 g, aluminum, 22 mm diameter.
