This specimen was lot 46577 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Bahawalpur. Rupee, AH 1253 (1838). Muhammad Bahawal Khan III. PCGS MS-62." The state of Bahawalpur lies in the southwest part of Punjab, in the Thar desert. Altho the nawab voluntarily entered the state of Pakistan in 1947-48, his state was abolished in 1955. This type was struck AH 1246, 1251-1265. It is reduced in weight compared to KM Y5.1 (9.8-10.1 g), struck AH 1255-1269. Many varieties and date mulings exist.
