from the Stack's Bowers 2020 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70128

This specimen was lot 70128 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, February 2020), where it sold for $19,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "BAHAMAS. 2500 Dollars, 1987. NGC PROOF-65 Ultra Cameo. Struck to honor Columbus's return to Spain and his reception by Queen Isabella (it is unlikely that the queen went down to the docks as depicted here). We have offered the accompanying 100 Dollars (KM-121) before but not this massive piece." This module was used for various NCLT's 1974-2000. A smaller gold 100 dollars (KM 119) was also issued for this occasion.

Specification: 407.26 g, 0.917 fine gold, 72 mm diameter, 12 oz AGW.
