Bahamas 1969 25 cents
This specimen was lot 73398 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $95. The catalog description[1] noted, "BAHAMAS. 25 Cents, 1969. PCGS SPECIMEN-68 Gold Shield. The middle year in a brief three-year series, this incredible specimen stands at the top of the PCGS population report in a tie with just two other examples. Ex: Kings Norton Mint Collection." This specimen is one of a type struck at the Royal Mint for the Bahamas 1969-70. In 1974 the bust of the queen was dropped in favor of the arms of the Bahamas (KM 63.1). The Franklin Mint produced this denomination 1971-85. The sloop on the reverse makes this coin a popular souvenir for sunburned tourists.
