Stack's Bowers 2023 ANA sale, lot 53687
SB823-53687r.jpg

This specimen was lot 53687 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $60. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIA. 10 Groschen, 1957. Vienna Mint. NGC PROOF-66." This type was struck 1951-2001 and has little collector value except for some of the early proofs, such as this one. Austria began minting euros in 2002, rendering this coin obsolete. The old Hapsburg eagle clasped an orb and scepter, symbols of imperial power; the republican eagle holds a hammer and sickle, symbols of the hard work needed to rebuild from the disaster of World War Two.

Recorded mintage: 33,509,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 1.1 g, aluminum, 20 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: Herinek 12, KM 2878.
