This specimen was lot 2391 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $156. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIA: Republic, 50 groschen, 1935, a superb example, PCGS graded Proof 65." In 1925, the currency was reformed with 100 kronen (old) = one groschen (new) and 100 groschen = one schilling. This type was struck 1935-36, before the Nazi Anschluss, and is worthless in all grades although the proofs are scarce.
Recorded mintage: 12,635,000 plus proofs.
Specification: 5.5 g, copper-nickel, 24 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by Gudrun Baudisch and Michael Powolny.
