This specimen was lot 42056 in Stack's Bowers Summer 2026 Global Showcase Auction (Pittsburgh, September 2026), where it sold for $4,148. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIA. 4 Ducats, 1893. Vienna Mint. Franz Joseph I. NGC MS-61. A relatively RARE date in the series, with a mere two examples certified by NGC and none by PCGS. A problem-free Mint State piece bordering on Prooflike reflectivity, with watery fields and thick frost coating the devices." This type was struck 1872-1915 in substantial numbers but the 1915 restrike is most commonly seen.
